“Charity begins at home” is not from the Bible but the concept could easily have come from 1 Timothy 5:4 and 1 Timothy 5:16, where Paul tells Timothy to make sure the widows are taken care of by their own families first, before calling on the Ekklesia.
“But if any widow has children or grandchildren, they must learn to practice godliness toward their own family first and to repay their parents, for this pleases God.” (1 Timothy 5:4)
If any believing woman has dependent widows, she must assist them and not allow the church to be burdened, so that it can help the widows who are truly in need. (1 Timothy 5:16)
There is no need to go preaching, singing and shouting and playing instruments for worship services and pretending that you are just full of the love of GOD while you neglect your poor, disabled, sickly and fragile family members, especially your parents and grandparents. To do so makes you a liar and hypocrite.
It is a violation of divine principle to give much-needed resources to a religious institution, institutional charity or church while financially neglecting your own widowed, aged, disabled, destitute or handicapped family members.
If you do so, your praise and your worship along with any gifts and offerings that you may have brought as an offering unto the LORD are totally defiled and rejected by GOD. (1 John 3:17)
First, demonstrate compassion from the heart and love from the soul toward your own family members. This is what pleases GOD.
Whoever has worldly possessions and sees his brother who has a need and withholds his compassion from him, how is the love of God in him? (1 John 3:17)
