While pastoring in Spartanburg, SC, I was told a story about a traveler who was passing through a town looking for The Church of Jesus Christ. He stopped at the only gas station in that town and asked the gas station attendant where might he find The Church of Jesus Christ. The gas station attendant confidently referred him to several different churches in the area.
After some time passed, the man revisited the gas station and he saw the gas station attendant who had earlier referred him to the churches in the local area.
When the gas station attendant saw the man again, he asked the man if he had any success finding The Church of Jesus Christ. The man replied that he had found several churches but none of them were the one that he was looking for. He said that he had driven into the parking lot of Ebenezer Methodist Church to discover that its billboard said that Ebenezer Methodist Church was the Church of Reverend Dr. T.D. Jake Osteen. He then said that he stopped by Greater Mount Sinai Baptist Church but discovered that it belonged to the Davis family and every pastor that they had was related to the Davis family. He then stopped by a Church where he was told by the ushers that it was the church of Apostle Fred Thompson and Co-pastor Prophetess Angela Thompson. As a matter of fact, the church’s name was Thompson Chapel Apostolic Deliverance Temple Church.
The man then declared in a disappointed and disgusted voice that with all the churches in that small town, not one of them was The CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST.
All of the churches were family run and operated.
“Also I say to you, that you are Kaypha, and upon this stone I shall build my church, and the gates of Sheol will not withstand it.” (Matthew 16:18)
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, only those who do what my Father in heaven wants. On that Day, many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord! Didn’t we prophesy in your name? Didn’t we expel demons in your name? Didn’t we perform many miracles in your name?’ Then I will tell them to their faces, ‘I never knew you! Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness!’” (Matthew 7:21-23 )
“The Son of Man shall come, and will he then find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8)
I believe that the Spirit of Divine Revelation is Speaking. Are You Listening?
If CHRIST returned today, would He find His Church or yours?
I am just asking.
