Then the LORD said, “You had compassion on the plant for which you did not work and which you did not cause to grow, which came up overnight and perished overnight. Should I not have compassion on Nineveh, the great city in which there are more than 120,000 persons who do not know the difference between their right and left hand…”
In the fourth chapter of the book of Jonah, Jonah becomes angry with God unto death over the death of a shade tree yet showed no love, concern or mercy for the lost souls of a nation and a people.
Some folks are just like Jonah!
Some people tend to be more concerned over things that do not have a soul than they are about showing mercy toward those who are in spiritual darkness and headed for total destruction.
Some people tend to be angry and passionately distraught over the loss of things but have no remorse over the loss of a soul or a life.
Some folks shed more tears over a piece of bread that feel to the ground than they do over a living soul that died lost in sin and was buried in the ground.
Some Christians are just concerned with their own soul’s well-being, comfort and salvation and do not have a heart for the salvation of anyone else.
There are some people who will show mercy and have pity on a plant but will not have any compassion for a perishing human being.
But thank God for His mercy toward us all for we were all at one time lost in spiritual darkness and headed for condemnation and Hell.
I thank God that He didn’t give up on me like we give up on each other.
I thank God that He sent His Word of Salvation to us that we may be drawn out of darkness into His marvelous Light.
I thank God for the Light of Christ that Shines Brightly in our lives.
And I Thank God for the Urgency of His Priority to Save Me.
It is with that same urgency that I say unto you…
