“Vindicate the weak and fatherless; Do justice to the afflicted and destitute. Rescue the weak and needy; Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked.” ~ Psalm 82:3-4
“Open your mouth for the mute, For the rights of all the unfortunate. Open your mouth, judge righteously, And defend the rights of the afflicted and needy.” ~ Proverbs 31:8-9
“The righteous care about justice for the poor, but the wicked have no such concern.” ~ Proverbs 29:7
We live in a very selfish world where many folks are only concerned about their own image, interests, needs and pleasures. Some folks will knock you down, run over you, look over you and then step over you in order to get what they think that they want and deserve. Self-gratification, personal pleasures and self-righteousness are their drugs of choice and their gods. They have no genuine concern for the sufferings of others or the destitution that ravages the life of others.
However, for those of us who are truly born again, the sympathetic and unselfish love and compassion of Christ resides in us and we are uncomfortable when we see someone in poverty, destitution or suffering. We are moved to action when we see injustice or the affliction of the weak and defenseless.
We do not stand with the ones who inflict hurt and injury on others and rob the widows and the poor and inflict hardship on the destitute and take advantage of the weak and innocent.
We cannot stand idly by and say nothing and do nothing when so many are suffering so much.
We must open our mouths for those who have been silenced or who are powerless to speak for themselves. We must open our hearts to see and feel the desperation of their pain and sufferings. We must open our hands and our resources to alleviate their destitution and affliction. We cannot call ourselves Christians and stand idly by and do nothing.
“If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?” ~1 John 3:17
The answer is that The Love Of God Doesn’t Reside In That Person.
True Christian love cannot enjoy one morsel of food in the face of a hungry brother. True Christian love cannot enjoy any personal pleasure while his/her sister is destitute and afflicted. True Christian love cannot enjoy the raptures of worldly prosperity while a brother or sister is suffering the hell of poverty and insufficiency. True Christian love shares and cares.
There is One who loves us so much that He divested Himself of His Heavenly Glory to become earthly poor with us so that we might come to know and inherit the true and eternal riches of Heaven.
Those Of Us Who Are Truly Born Again Are Also Filled With His Spirit And We Know The Richness Of His Love And We Gladly Give Ourselves Away On Behalf Of The Poor, The Weak, The Destitute, The Widows And The Afflicted. We Give Of Ourselves And Of Our Resources For The Sake Of Christ’s Love And For The Glory That Is Set Before Us In Christ.
